Katie Redford

Somewhere in my many boxes of Burma-related files is an old proposal to set up a new NGO called EarthRights International. It envisioned using the power of a U.S. law - the Alien Tort Claims Act - to hold the U.S. oil company, Unocal, accountable for its connection to human rights abuses in Burma.

I remember when Katie Redford and Tyler Giannini first visited me in Boston and gave me that paper. Since then, they have been integral in the case against Unocal, which may finally come to trial this year.

Katie is the subject of a profile in today's Boston Globe.

Congratulations Katie! It's been a pleasure to work with you, one of the feistiest and most effective U.S. human rights campaigners.
